Mathematics

The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), the Mathematics K–10 Syllabus provides students with the opportunity to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills in mathematics and numeracy. Students have the opportunity to develop increasingly sophisticated and refined mathematical understanding, fluency, communication, reasoning, analytical thought and problem-solving skills. These capabilities enable students to respond to familiar and unfamiliar situations by employing strategies to make informed decisions and solve problems relevant to their present and future needs.

The syllabus consists of the following strands:

Mathematics classes are structured so as to create the best learning experience and opportunity for advancement within the subject.  Students are accelerated on an individual basis if justified.

All students are provided with a login to MathsOnline at the beginning of every year to support their learning beyond the classroom. This allows them to revisit concepts taught in class, practise skills at their own pace, and reinforce their understanding through guided lessons and practice tasks. It also provides a helpful way for students to catch up on work they may have missed and address any gaps in their knowledge, ensuring they feel confident and well prepared for future learning.

In senior years, students are given an opportunity to choose a course that best suits their interest and ability so as to maximise their success in the HSC (Higher School Certificate).
