Science

Science is mandatory for all students from Year 7 to Year 10.

Science 7-10 provides a way of inquiring about the world around us. It explores evidence and investigates ways to discover, develop and produce solutions to real-world problems. Science emphasises the skills for working scientifically, as well as critical and creative thinking to address scientific issues.

In Years 11 and 12, students can choose from different science disciplines, including:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Earth and Environmental Science
  • Investigating Science
  • Physics.

In Year 12, students who are studying at least one other science subject may also choose to study Science Extension.

In the science faculty we aim to engage and challenge all students to maximise their talents and capabilities for lifelong learning of science. Through their science studies, students can become effective and responsible participants in society, taking account of moral and ethical considerations.

With the comprehensive range of topics covered in Years 7 to 10 we hope to encourage and enable all students to enjoy learning, and to be self-motivated, reflective, competent learners.

Excursions

Each year group will have the opportunity to participate in an excursion to support and enrich their studies of science. Notes will be issued prior to the date of the activity and return of permission forms and payment to the accounts office by the due date is essential and will be much appreciated. Students will be unable to attend the excursion if this is not done.

Eco club

Each Thursday lunchtime, enthusiastic students meet in the eco garden, tending six large beds of beautiful herbs and plants and selling the produce to staff. New members are always welcome.

Other popular activities include a sleepover at Taronga Zoo, Green Day for the whole school and conducting School Environmental Education Days (SEED) at our local primary schools.
